PROJECT UPDATE 12/14/25
When I first started this project, I didn't know if I'd even have enough artists interested to fill the first month. Well, so far, at week 9, I've completed over 60 artist highlight pages. That means that, at the current rate of only one artist per week, the most recent pages I've completed won't post until 2027! I'm not sure I'll even continue the project into 2027. So, beginning January 2026, I'll be posting TWO artists per week -- one each on Saturdays and Wednesdays. (Now, I'm not sure I'll have enough ongoing interest to even finish 2026! lol)
THE PROJECT 09/2025
Welcome to Three by Three: Guest Artists in Focus — a curated popup gallery celebrating the creative voices of artists across all artforms - visual, performing, and literary - who are not using AI in their art.
Each Saturday, I will spotlight one artist through 3 revealing questions and 3 handpicked works, offering a brief but meaningful window into what shapes their vision. It’s not a full interview. It’s not a full portfolio. Just a moment of clarity — framed in image, insight, and intention.
The name "Three by Three" is a nod to the print format (3x3) from my first childhood camera, the one that sparked my early passion for capturing moments on film.
Participation is free. Interested in participating? Please reach out via email.
THE VALUE OF HUMAN ARTISTRY
In an age where artificial intelligence can generate content in seconds, we champion the irreplaceable value of human-made art. This is art born from the trembling hand, the heart that chooses the moment, and the lived experience that shapes every creative decision. It carries the weight of human emotion, the messiness of real experience, and the profound act of one person saying, "this matters."
Human-generated art is essential medicine for those who witness it. In every work shared here, there is an invitation to see through someone else’s perspective, to connect across the beautiful complexity of human experience. By celebrating human artistry across all forms, we keep something sacred alive.
OUR COMMITMENT TO HUMAN ARTISTRY: THE "NO GENERATIVE AI" POLICY
For this project, the core principle is that the creative decision, the content, and the final work must originate from the human artist, not from generative artificial intelligence that fabricates, invents, or substantially alters the core elements of the piece. This policy applies equally across all featured artforms: visual, performance, and literary. NOTE: this is NOT to say you never use AI. I use AI in business and in research. This project, however, is about artists not using AI in their ART.
ALLOWED TOOLS AND PROCESSES (FOR REFINEMENT)
These are computational tools that enhance, edit, or process the artist's original, human-created content without fabricating new, core elements. In short, AI that helps the artist function is fine. AI that creates or alters the fundamental reality of the art is not.
DEFINING "NO GENERATIVE AI"
The distinction lies between tools that refine the artist's original creation and tools that invent new content. See chart.
